Rebuilt with React & Gatsby

React and Gatsby logos

Welcome to my newly rebuilt site, a static progressive web app (PWA) brought to you with the help of React and Gatsby.

In this iteration of my site, I've done away completely with WordPress. It's not because I have an axe to grind with WP; I still build themes and take part in their Theme Review team. But as any developer knows, while WordPress is a powerful CMS, it can also be slow, inefficient and riddled with security risks. All of that, taken together with the fact that I love working in React, meant it was time to move on.

There's also probably no better time than now to introduce a site like this. Increasingly, the market has been moving away from sites running server-side CMS like WordPress to those that, like this one, are built on JavaScript, APIs and Markup. It's a combination of technologies known as the JAMstack. If you're unfamiliar with JAMstack sites, this one will serve as a good example.

In general, JAMstack sites are fast and efficient, easy to scale up and virtually impenetrable from a security standpoint. Because they can be hosted anywhere, the hosting is typically very inexpensive.

To learn more about progressive web apps, or JAMstack sites in general, and how they can benefit you, please feel free to contact me. You can also learn more from JAMstack.org.

Meanwhile, have a look around this first version of my new site. When I'm finished adding features, I'll make it available in my Github repository.

Feel free to report any bugs on the contact page.

Enjoy!
